We have refreshed the design of Word To HTML…

It has been a few years since we last updated the site design, so we decided to do a refresh. The new site design is now live.

The core features of the site are still the same we just cleaned up the design to make it easier to read. We have introduced a new blue and green colour scheme which should make the options and links more obvious.


New format painter feature. Apply existing styles to any text…

We are pleased to launch our new feature. Format painter is an easy way to apply an existing style to any other text in your content.

Also, you can use this feature with keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+Shift+E to copy format and Ctrl+Shift+F to apply format.

Please note that if you copy a style from headings, then can just click any word in a paragraph of text to apply it to that whole paragraph.

New image editor and resize feature

We are pleased to inform you that we’ve added a new image editor to our default Visual Editor.

Just click on an image and then click the paintbrush icon:

This is what the image editor looks like. Just edit the image and click the Save button.

A second change is an image resize feature on image paste or upload. If you paste or upload an image that is bigger than 800×600 pixels when embedding the image and 1200×800 pixels when uploading the image to our server, then you will see the following resize window:

Basically, you can use the slider to make the image smaller and switch to JPEG format if you upload non-JPEG images (PNG, GIF, WEBP). You can see details about the original vs resized image and a preview of the resized image on the screen. Once you’re OK with the resized image click Insert Resized Image button. If you want to add an original image then click Insert Original Image button.



New feature: share documents with your team…

You can now share your documents with your team.

To do this click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Save button, then select the share option.

In the new window, you can select the team members that can access the document. You can also choose if they have the ability to overwrite the document, if you keep this unticked they will have to save the document as a new file in their own storage.

Issue with logging in via Facebook…

This morning, without any warning Facebook again decided to turn off our ability to log in users using their Facebook accounts.

We have contacted Facebook to ask them what the issue is.

While we are waiting to get the issue resolved you can login into your account with the email address linked with your Facebook account.

You will likely need to reset your password, to do this visit our password reset page and enter the email address that is linked to your Facebook account.

We have made the site easier to use…

As we have added more features to the site, the interface got more complex. We worried that new users would find our app intimidating so we have been working on improving the user interface to make it cleaner and easier to use.

The main changes are:

The HTML Editor options have been moved from below the editor to above. We have made them icons so they match the menu of the visual editor.

The copy to clipboard and Cleanup my HTML buttons are now below the HTML Editor to make them easier to access.

The template and advanced options are hidden by default. Just click the cog icon to the right of the Cleanup my HTML button to show them.

We are keen to get more feature suggestions from users so we have added a system to let you submit your ideas and also vote on other users ideas.

We have been busy improving Word To HTML to add in new features.

Choose your editor:

you could always choose between our default editor and TinyMCE but the option to switch was a bit hidden in the settings page. We have made this option easier by adding a toggle above the editor:

Updates to email editor:

we have made the email editor easier to use. By using our simple drag and drop interface you can make great looking HTML emails. We have also added a feature where you insert free stock images from Pexels. To insert a free image just click on the add free image option in file manager:

Then just search for the type of image you want, and click on add image to download it.

New payment methods:

as well as paying by card or PayPal we now also support the following payment methods  for our EU customers:

  • Giropay for Germany
  • EPS for Austria
  • Ideal for Netherlands and
  • BanContact for Belgium and
  • Sofort for all these countries except Poland

We are pleased to launch our new Visual Email Designer! Creating HTML emails is one of the most common uses of our service, but we wanted to make the process easier and quicker.

Our new drag and drop HTML Email Editor lets you visually create your HTML emails. You can start from a blank template or customize one of our many built-in predesigned templates.

All the controls are visual, so it is super easy to use – you drag the section you need from the panel on the left and place it into your email design. You can add new columns, rows, images, videos buttons etc. to your layout and see the changes live.

The Ultimate guide to converting Word documents to HTML

In this guide, we will explore all the various ways for you to convert Word documents to HTML. We are experts at converting Microsoft Word documents to HTML with over 20 years of experience. We have several tools to help you convert and process your documents to clean HTML:

Using MS Word built-in save as HTML option

If you have MS Word installed you can use the built-in save to HTML option. All you need to do is:

  • Go to the file menu
  • Select Save as
  • In the drop-down file type box select, Web Page, Filtered
  • Click Save

Easy eh? Not so fast there are two significant issues with using Word to save your HTML, the file sizes are large and the quality of the HTML is not very good.

Large file sizes when using MS Word to convert documents to HTML

If you create a simple test document like the one shown below, then save it to HTML you will see that the resulting web page has more than 100 lines of code.

If we use Upload file and convert the same file with one of our tools like WordToHTML.net you will get around 40 lines of code when full page mode is enabled, which is less than half of the size of the Word version.  If you copy and paste content from an MS Word document into Visual Editor you will get even 19 lines of code, which is less than one-fourth of the size of the Word version. This example is for a simple document, for complex files the file size difference can be even larger.

Why does it matter if my HTML code is large?

Apart from practical issues like server space web pages with lots of code that are longer to download. Google penalizes sites with slow download times, and more importantly, users are impatient. According to research nearly half of web users expect a site to load in 2 seconds or less, and they tend to abandon a site that has not loaded within 3 seconds.  In the modern internet, speed is the most important factor.

Word generates messy non-standard HTML when converting from Word to HTML

The other big issue with using Word is it creates overly complex non-standard HTML. Now to be fair to Microsoft, we imagine that the main reason they do this is to try to keep the layout of your files as similar as possible, but it does create issues. In our example file if we look at how Word handles the list items, this is the code it generates:

A lot of code just to display the word apple on a list. You will also notice that Word does not use the standard HTML Li and ul list tags. It uses CSS to format the lists, if you strip out this CSS the list becomes normal text. In comparison, this is the code generated with WordToHTML.net when you upload a document and convert it.

So you can see if you want the cleanest HTML possible you need to use a proper tool to convert your Word files to HTML.
